COAT Logo

COAT advocates for accessibility and usability of technology for people with disabilities. Enacting the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (21st CVAA) was a huge step forward and we are working to implement this new law. COAT’s overall aim is to ensure accessibility, usability, and affordability of all broadband, wireless, and Internet technologies for people with disabilities.

COAT Affiliate CSD Opens Help Center for DTV Captioning Problems

Communication Service for the Deaf (CSD), a founding member organization of COAT, has received federal funding to help viewers experiencing captioning problems associated with the digital TV transition. They have opened a center to provide technical assistance to those of us fed up with problems like lost or garbled captioning,  duplicate captioning, cable concerns etc. COAT notes that by June 12, almost all TV stations will stop analog broadcasting and will switch to digital broadcasting.  See the fun CSD video clip or Email CSD about their new center or if you  have a captioning problem.

For the last two months some

For the last two months some channels have ceased their closed captioning. Versus/outdoor, the weather channel, espns to name a few of them. I have directv as a provider. They were of no help when I called them. I have Emailed the weather channel and also versus/outdoor channel and no results. Does this have something to do with the conversion and if so why didn't it affect other channels?

I have no problem with HGTV, Food, and many other channels.
