COAT advocates for accessibility and usability of technology for people with disabilities. Enacting the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (21st CVAA) was a huge step forward and we are working to implement this new law. COAT’s overall aim is to ensure accessibility, usability, and affordability of all broadband, wireless, and Internet technologies for people with disabilities.

Confirmation Hearing for Incoming FCC Chairman Genachowski is Now Captioned!

Good news! The confirmation hearing for Julius Genachowski, held by the U.S. Senate June 16, 2009 is now available online and with captioning! This hearing on FCC Commissioners included re-confirmation of Robert McDowell. Or, go to US Senate Commerce Committee, click on Hearings on left, then go to June 16, 2:30 pm time slot, then click on option for captioned webcast. While this is after-the-event captioning, COAT is pleased to see this content now accessible; and we continue to work on ensuring new policies are put in place for all Internet-streamed events to be captioned.

Genachowski hired Colin

Genachowski hired Colin Crowell, former Markey staffer,as a Senior Counselor. This is good news for COAT as Colin is very familiar with H.R. 3101. Other Genachowski staff have experience with disability issues too. This is very helpful, usualy.See Public Notice

He's been confirmed as Chair of the FCC -- congratulations to him, and good news for us, as he is described as a strong supporter of accessibility.
