COAT advocates for accessibility and usability of technology for people with disabilities. Enacting the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (21st CVAA) was a huge step forward and we are working to implement this new law. COAT’s overall aim is to ensure accessibility, usability, and affordability of all broadband, wireless, and Internet technologies for people with disabilities.
Royal National Institute of Blind Launches Video Description Campaign
In October 2009, the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) in England, U.K., an International Friend of COAT, launched a campaign to increase the amount of video or audio description on television. Their campaign solicits input from the U.K. public in response to an Ofcom review process. Ofcom is the U.K. regulatory agency somewhat like the FCC and the review process is somewhat like an FCC Notice of inquiry. If you have friends in the U.K.(England, N. Ireland, Scotland, Wales), be sure to let them know of this campaign and to provide input to Ofcom, deadline November 12, 2009.
