COAT advocates for accessibility and usability of technology for people with disabilities. Enacting the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (21st CVAA) was a huge step forward and we are working to implement this new law. COAT’s overall aim is to ensure accessibility, usability, and affordability of all broadband, wireless, and Internet technologies for people with disabilities.
COAT Australian International Friend Targets Online News Websites for Accessibility
COAT applauds International Friend, Media Access Australia, for moving in a new direction with its Web Accessibility campaign in January 2010. They are now targeting online news websites for accessibility review. The websites, ABC News, ninemsn, and Yahoo!7 , like many similar television news websites in the U.S., include videoclips that are neither adequately captioned or described and likely do not meet other accessibility and usability standards. Some of the current videoclips on these sites include emergency news and information about serious weather situations that are not made accessible. Visit Media Access Australia's awareness campaign website for more information.
