COAT Affiliate Conducts TV News Captioning Quality Survey
March 25, 2010. COAT affiiate WGBH Access Media Center is asking for participants in an anonymous online survey about television news captioning errors. Viewers of TV news who use closed captions are invited to respond by Monday April 12, 2010. The survey takes about 15-20 minutes to complete, and can be filled out in multiple visits.
This survey is designed to collect information from television news caption viewers about the impact of errors that appear in live closed captioning (for example, mistakes, word deletions or substitutions). The information provided will shed light on the types of caption errors that make the dialogue in a live television news program hard to follow. Survey results will be posted on the website.
