COAT Leaders Put on Goggles for Comcast 3D TV Demonstration: Captioning Pending
On April 8, 2010 COAT leaders Jenifer Simpson of AAPD and Rosaline Crawford of NAD, tried on the goggles or special glasses to see some 3-D television. The demonstration, held at the Newseum in Washington, DC, was held by Comcast, the largest cable TV company -- or multiple system operator (MSO) -- in the U.S. The demo was a broadcast of the 2010 Masters Tournament in 3D over Comcast's fiber-based IP network. COAT conversations with Comcast engineers revealed that their researchers are examining ways to ensure captioning of 3D TV, which involves inserting accurate placement of the captioning within the "depth of field" that 3D TV creates for the viewer.
