COAT advocates for accessibility and usability of technology for people with disabilities. Enacting the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (21st CVAA) was a huge step forward and we are working to implement this new law. COAT’s overall aim is to ensure accessibility, usability, and affordability of all broadband, wireless, and Internet technologies for people with disabilities.

COAT Affiliates Comment to US Access Board on Accessible Information & Communication Technologies

On June 21, 2010, COAT and its affiliates sent comments to the U.S. Access Board for the first round in the refresh of the Section 508 & 255 standards. This rulemaking also included an opportunity to comment to the Board on a new ADAAG standard for kiosks.

COAT affiliates submitting comments included leading organizations such as AAPD, Audio Description AssociatesACB, AFB, ATAPATIA,  Burton Blatt InstituteHLAA, Inclusive TechnologiesNAD, TenacityTDI, WGBH-NCAM, and others. Comments generally thanked the Access Board for its efforts to harmonize Sections 508 and 255, and with WCAG, to simplify and to address self service kiosk standards. Specific comments addressed areas of concern or gaps and responded, in part, to the 33 specific questions raised by the Board.
