COAT advocates for accessibility and usability of technology for people with disabilities. Enacting the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (21st CVAA) was a huge step forward and we are working to implement this new law. COAT’s overall aim is to ensure accessibility, usability, and affordability of all broadband, wireless, and Internet technologies for people with disabilities.

Verizon Statement on House Committee Vote on Twenty-First Century Communications and Accessibility Act
WASHINGTON — The House Committee on Energy and Commerce approved legislation to update disability access provisions of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 on Wednesday (July 21) by a unanimous vote. Sponsored by Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass., the Twenty-First Century Communications and Accessibility Act (H.R. 3101) seeks to improve access to all communications platforms for people with disabilities. The following statement should be attributed to Peter Davidson, Verizon senior vice president of federal government relations:
“We commend the House Committee on Energy and Commerce for its approval of this important legislation. We appreciate the bipartisan efforts of Representatives Markey, Waxman, Barton, Boucher and Stearns to work closely with the disability community, industry and other stakeholders. We look forward to enactment of this legislation as the nation marks the twentieth anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.”
