COAT advocates for accessibility and usability of technology for people with disabilities. Enacting the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (21st CVAA) was a huge step forward and we are working to implement this new law. COAT’s overall aim is to ensure accessibility, usability, and affordability of all broadband, wireless, and Internet technologies for people with disabilities.
COAT Affiliates Meet with National Council on Independent Living on H.R. 3101
On July 22, 2010, COAT leaders Jenifer Simpson of AAPD, Mark Richert of AFB and Rosaline Crawford of NAD met with members of the National Council on Independent Living (NCIL) about H.R. 3101, "The 21st Century Communications & Video Accessibility Act of 2010." In a workshop advocacy session, the COAT representatives discussed the formation, growth and activities of COAT, and the legislative action over the past three years on this historic initiative. Also covered were details of the bills Title I and Title II components and what advocates should do next. Workshop attendees were very interested in learning more about H.R. 3101 and its status and wanted to become more involved in the next round of advocacy efforts and to join the Coaliton.
