COAT advocates for accessibility and usability of technology for people with disabilities. Enacting the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act (21st CVAA) was a huge step forward and we are working to implement this new law. COAT’s overall aim is to ensure accessibility, usability, and affordability of all broadband, wireless, and Internet technologies for people with disabilities.

Noovember 22, 2011. Leading COAT affiliate The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) sent a letter to the House Committee on the Judiciary Chairman Lamar Smith (R-TX) and Ranking Member John Conyers (D-MI) opposing the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). SOPA is currently under consideration in Congress and is a bill intended to combat the dissemination of pirated copyrighted content on the Internet, such as Hollywood videos published online without permission.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Edward J. Markey (D-MA), a senior member and former chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee’s Communications, Technology and the Internet Subcommittee, released the following statement after the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) approval of new regulations under the authority of the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2010 that require the television industry to provide video descriptions. COAT Leaders Meet with FCC Commissioners' Staffs on 21st CVAA Implementation
August 9, 2011. COAT steering committee members met with FCC Commissioner Mignon Clyburn and her staff and with several other Commissioners' staffs -- from the offices of Commissioners Copps and McDowell and Chairman Genachowski -- this week in regard to reinstatement of video description rules, rules for advanced communications services and for TV internet captioning.
